I am proud to be the Chair of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and from Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine.

You are all watching the inhumanity on your tv screens. One of the most powerful states in the world against a defenceless population in an open air prison. It is supplied with the deadliest and most destructive weapons by the US tax payer.

Israel claims its war is with Hamas. What we see on the tv screens is Israel’s war against the Palestinian people across the whole of historic Palestine.

Our government is complicit in war crimes by supporting Israel’s right to self defence with no limits.

It defends the occupier Israel but supports the occupied, the Ukrainians against Russia.

They are the nasty party with the nasty home secretary.

Shame on you Rishi Sunak

But Labour is no better

Sir Keir, we heard you say Israel has a right to cut off water, electricity, food and medical supplies to 2 million 300,000 innocent people.

Are you really a human rights lawyer, or are you a criminal lawyer defending a criminal state?

You have refused to acknowledge Israel practices the policies of Apartheid.

You have refused to meet the Palestinian community.

I understand your office has been in meltdown for your and your front bench team’s appalling indefensible position.

I salute the Labour councillors that have resigned and I hope more will.

I am a Labour Party member. I thought it would be better to remain in, but no more. As a Palestinian, I reject your conflation of anti Zionism and antisemitism and your latest position.

I can no longer remain a member of a party that sees Palestinians as a lesser people than others.

I resign as a member of the Labour Party with immediate effect and ask others who campaign for justice to consider their position
